Happy Memorial Day Weekend.

Throughout your busy activities at the lake or beach, with family or friends, playing games, BBQ-ing, and having a great time, don't forget to remember the reason for the holiday. Thank God for the men and women who have given their lives for this country.

It's good that you remembered Memorial Day. It slipped my mind, until your piece came up in my News Reader.

I've never known the deprivation of combat, though I had a friend called up to Iraq. My family have fought in the battles of 1776, 1861, 1941, and 1965. They have seen and experienced things that would just assume I never have to see.

I couldn't imagine beholding the spectacle of the bloody beaches at Normandy as one did, or suffering frostbite after a tense fight with Germans, or emptying helicopters of the wounded and dying. Yet my ancestors went through that hardship.

Thankfully, we're just sojourners and pilgrims passing through this troubled world, and we have a Heavenly citizenship. One day, war will be no more.

He shall judge between the nations, And rebuke many people; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore.
—Isaiah 2:4

A wonderful reminder. May God comfort those who have suffered such a great loss as well.

Yes, gone but still remembered and loved.
May they rest in peace.
