"Come back to Texas..."

You guys know that song,

"Come back to Texas
It's just not the same
Since you went away
Before you lose your accent
And forget all aboutThe Lonestar state
There's a seat for you at the rodeo
And i've got every slow dance saved
Besides the Mexican food sucks
North of here anyway.
....

Come back to Texas
It's just not the same
Since you went away
I bet you missed your exit
And drove right on through the Lonestar state
There's a seat for you at the rodeo
And i've got every slow dance saved
Besides the Mexican food sucks north of here anyway

Troy Aikmen wants you back
Willie Nelson wants you back
NASA wants you back
And the Bush twins want you back
And Pantera wants you back
And Bluebell wants you back

I got a premonition
I'm taking a petition
And the whole states gonna sign

Come back to Texas...."

(I've been wondering why they didn't say anything about Dr. Pepper in the song; that mystery shall always plague my brain.)

Anyways, I can't ignore it any longer. I'm going back to Texas. But just for a week!

I'm excited. I get to see my cousin in Houston, my Aunt and Uncle in Junction on a huge exotic animal ranch, another Aunt, Uncle, and cousin in San Antonio, a really good friend from college in San Antonio, and my great-grandmother.

I can't wait for the taste of REAL Mexican food once again. Mmm, Mmm good!

Plus, my good friend just had her second baby today! And she's got a 3 year old little girl. So I get to go spoil the babies! Don't worry, I'll take tons of pictures!

I'm leaving Tuesday (probably--I'm doing the whole "buddy pass" thing, so ya' never know!) and I'll be back the following Tuesday. So, ya' haven't gotten rid of me quite yet, but almost!

Have a great weekend!

Kristi,
Are you from the Lone Star state? Or do you just visit and enjoy it? Both Beth and I are from there, and LBB was born over Texas soil, even though he came into this world in Memphis.

I also mentioned Texas in my latest post:

You might check it out.

BTW, we did try to go back to Texas, but the Lord brought us to the Palmetto State instead. I do miss the Mexican food... and the barbecue... it's just not the same here... I want beef in my barbecue.
Blessings

Titus, my dad is from Texas. I have always enjoyed visiting there though. The Palmetto State is surely the 2nd best state in the nation!

Dahlia, I could tie you onto the wing of the plane maybe... would you go for that?

WAAAAAA! I want my Momma.
And Mexican food, real BEEF bar-be-que, mesquite trees, that slow Texas drawl, the wild bluebonnets and Indian paintbrushes that bloom every spring, being able to drive where there are no fences except around cemetaries, being able to see for 50 miles, the sound of the wind through the grass, it's smell and the sneeze that follows, windmills, and margaritas with chips and salsa on a hot summer night.
I'm really glad I'm in SC and am trying to make it home. It's beautiful and the people are so friendly. (I just can't get past the smell from the saw mill that leaches through our doors from outside.) The South is now home because that's where God has placed us, after many opportunities to return us to Texas. But there's just something about Texas that sticks in your blood. It is a unique culture, that's for sure.
BTW, the Dr. Pepper you get in Waco, Texas, where they started making it, is different...and better than what you buy in stores. They use cane sugar, rather than corn syrup. There is a huge difference. Kristi, you can make it there in about 3 hours from San Antonio. There is a museum there. It was even in Southern Living a few years ago. There is also a great Mexican food restaurant on the river walk and another in the old city. Worth going to. Forget El Chico and On the Border, it's Texan...but a franchise. Go native. Nothin' beats the real stuff.
If you'd like, I can give you a list of places to visit. (I used to teach Texas History for years.)
Oh, I can go on forever...but lunch awaits.
Have a great trip!

By the way, what does it mean by the whole 'buddy pass' thing? I haven't heard of that expression before hehe.

"A rolling stone gathers no moss"

Fare thee well young lass. Beware the cowboys. Let not his brand be placed on thee nor let him tie thee down. Take heed when strangers offer kindness. Prepare thy steed and feed it well. Do not press it hard on the journey. Above all take heed unto thyself lest ye should become entangled along the way.

Other than that have a great time but hurry back, you're always missed! ;-)
