Penny for your thoughts...

I am asking for your opinion on yet one more thing. Psalm 33:15a says, "He fashions their hearts alike..." In the context, God is looking down from heaven upon all the people of the earth. And then it says, He fashions all their hearts alike. What does this mean? I have an idea, but I'd like to know your thoughts before I throw something out there. It doesn't have to be anything deep and theological, but it can be. Just let me know what you think when you read that verse.

ohhhh first comment . . . . pressure

Ok, I had to go look at the context and see the whole sentence: "The LORD looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men; From His dwelling place He looks out On all the inhabitants of the earth, He who fashions the hearts of them all, He who understands all their works." (NAS version) so instead of alike this verson says "of them all" so I am seeing God in heaven, looking down on His creation, on the people He gave life to, who He formed, and really seeing them, knowing them, and therefore knowing me.

My two cents.

Katie, that's helpful. Looking at other versions is always enlightening. Thanks for your two cents! =)

i tried to find your exact wording but am coming up dry, but I like the idea of Him fashioning our hearts alike (maybe not exactly the same) but in the same way, with the same care, so we are all different and yet in the idea that He created us (fashioned us) we are simliar, we are drawn to one another, hmmmm now you got me thinking

Looks like everyone is coming up dry on this one!

Now you're thinking more along the line of what I was thinking. I got my wording from the KJV. Keep those wheels turning!

I read from the New King James version and it says, "He fashions their hearts individually...He considers all their works."

Individually. That's interesting. Much different concept comes across with that word. Looks like I'm gonna have to do my homework and look it up in the origianl Greek.

This is only a guess, but maybe the Lord is saying that He fashions them in the same way as in, he works the same way on everyone. Thats just a guess.

I think it's more a two edged sword. On one edge is He's created all of us with the same loving care, on the other edge none of us were given any special spiritual attributes.

Look at the key words in Hebrew:
FASHIONS: to mould into a form; especially as a potter
HEARTS: used figuratively very widely for the heart, feelings, will, intellect, motives, affections, desires, emotions, etc.; can be used as a noun or adverb.

Basically then he formed our souls similarly, one to another - my soul is similarly made to yours or katie's, etc. but still unique in it's own way.

I always like to look back at the intent of the original language whenever I can.

Kc, I like that.

Green, thanks. I just got done with my Strong's myself. I was going to say it was pretty hard to look it up in Greek when it was written in Hebrew. Duh. anyways, thanks for pointing out those definitions.

Bill, thanks for adding your thoughts as well.

I love my Strong's. I'd be lost without it...
